Tom is a shooting instructor with a keen focus on novice shooters and young guns, putting them at ease with his warm, patient temperament and calm style as an instructor. He inspires confidence in inexperienced shooters, helping them to understand their game day and feel assured of themselves on peg.
Unlike many in the shooting industry, Tom did not have a background of family or friends involved in the field. However, he quickly developed a passion for it partaking in Young Gun days as a teenager, and decided to make inroads by taking up game farming – rearing partridge and pheasant whilst building relationships in the shooting world. He realized this was the ideal place for him to combine his love of hospitality and game shooting, and decided to pursue it as his chosen career.
His first role at a shooting school was supporting both the corporate and sporting teams. No stone was left unturned, from loading on game days to setting up large-scale charity events, and of course, instructing. Tom was able to transfer his skills as a rugby coach at his local club and love of teaching which he did as a student, into the instruction of shooting, and soon began taking private lessons after the successful completion of his APSI.
Wanting to develop his hosting and sporting further, Tom was fortunate enough to join the team at Loyton Sporting in Devon. There he was infield for over 100 days every season, as either the go-to instructor or host. Loyton runs a series of renowned shoots offering “extreme” pheasant and partridge, and one of Tom’s proudest moments was on a family day, seeing his young client pulling down a few lofty birds from St Paul’s at Haddeo!
More recently, Tom has focused on his corporate hospitality and business development skills, organizing and hosting clients at global events from, trackside yachts at the Monaco Grand Prix, classic car rallies in Monte Carlo and The Masters at Augusta.
